Lo Drain, MFT Intern

THEY/THEM

Drexel Masters Student in Marriage and Family Therapy

My journey toward becoming a marriage and family therapist has grown from a deep curiosity about people, relationships, and the systems we learn to navigate. Through my educational and clinical work, I became especially interested in how trauma, attachment, and early experiences shape the way we show up in our romantic, familial, and social relationships. The more I learned, the more I felt drawn to support people in making sense of these patterns with compassion and creativity, which ultimately led me to pursue graduate training in marriage and family therapy.

I believe therapy helps people change by offering a space to understand themselves—both as individuals and as members of larger systems. When we explore where our beliefs, behaviors, and protective strategies come from, we can begin to identify which patterns still serve us and which ones are ready to shift. Therapy provides room to build healthier relationships, practice new ways of communicating, and reconnect with one’s own sense of agency and self-worth.

My clinical interests include working with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. I enjoy supporting clients through trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, attachment-related concerns, and life transitions. I also have a background as a sex and health educator for teens, which informs my comfort discussing topics like sexuality, substance use, consent, communication, and relational dynamics. In addition, I’m affirming of kink, ENM, polyamory, and other non-traditional relationship structures, and I welcome clients navigating these areas.

As a queer person in both my gender and sexuality, identity development is an important part of my work—but my practice is not limited to LGBTQIA+ clients. Instead, I aim to create a space that is inclusive, collaborative, and grounded in empathy for anyone seeking support. I enjoy weaving creativity into the therapeutic process, whether through metaphor, art, storytelling, or imaginative reframing, especially when problem-solving or taking new perspectives.

Outside the therapy room, I’m a musician who loves going to live shows, drag performances, comedy nights, and community crafting events. I enjoy exploring Philadelphia’s coffee shops and restaurants, spending time with my beloved cat Max, and searching for unique hidden gems in thrift and vintage stores. For self-care, I recharge through nature walks, quiet alone time, watercoloring, music, and sharing meals with people I love.
